How I Lost the Pregnancy Weight Doing the Barnyard Dance!

I’m just gonna say it:

I’m struggling with the postpartum bod.

It comes in waves.

Moments when I watch my daughter sleeping or playing or delicately trying to eat a clump of dog hair off of the couch, I am filled with awe at what my body has created and brought into the world.

She is a precious miracle. An absolute blessing. It truly boggles the mind, doesn’t it?

And then in many other moments that occur at more frequent intervals throughout the day, I catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror and wonder when upper arm cellulite became a thing.

…Or when all of the varicose veins from pregnancy will finally fade (Never, right? The answer is never).

…Or when my back will stop feeling like a stretched rubber band, ready to snap.

…Or when people will stop asking me when the baby is due, despite the fact that I am currently holding a baby.

When? WHEN WILL IT STOP?

(Never, right? The answer is never.)

I missed the old me. The old me, who, yes, still had cellulite but could at least wear pants with a zipper.

It was time to bring fitness back.

Why I Read Peek-a WHO?…and Why I Stopped.

Ways My Life Changed Post-Baby That I Expected:

-No sleep
-Rarely bathe
-Think daily about getting a mom haircut

Unexpected Ways My Life Changed Post-Baby:

-Numb gut from surgery
-Have to run the dishwasher every day
-Developed a taste for Gerber Puffs

-Too tired to read

I used to love staying up late into the night devouring a book. Now I’m lucky if I can make it through ten pages a night, and eight of those pages are ones I’ve had to re-read because I’ve forgotten major plot points and characters (who’s this Mr. Darcy they keep mentioning? Ah well. Probably not that important).

My new reading material has to be something fast. Something light. But something that packs a punch. I still want to be thrilled. I’m still me, after all.  When I asked my mom friends for recommendations, the one title that kept coming up was Nina Laden’s Peek-a WHO?

Which Member of the Baby-Sitters Club Would You Hire?

I may not be leaving an inheritance, land, properties, assets, or practical knowledge of any sort to my daughter, but she WILL be receiving my collection of beloved, tattered young adult novels. I’m talking Sweet Valley High. Anastasia Krupnik. The Gymnasts. The American Girl series. You want Beverly Clearly? I got her. Danziger? Duh. But the crowning glory of this collection is a mostly intact run of books 1-70 of The Baby-Sitters Club, including Super Specials, Mysteries and a few of those weird Portrait books. It will all be yours one day, dear child.

This brings up the obvious question:

Which Member of The Baby-Sitters Club Would You Hire?

Let’s go through the options.
